Excitingly, {B/qKC} collaborated with journalist and author Amelia Abraham to contribute two photos to her newest work, Sex, Clubs, Dissent: Visualising Queer Nightlife.

“Sex, Clubs, Dissent charts an expansive visual history of queer nightlife through the lens of photographers, filmmakers, and artists. Edited by author Amelia Abraham, the book explores how image-making has fostered, and at times jeopardised, the formation of queer practices, subcultures, and forms of resistance. It asks what our decades-long quest to catalogue and understand nightlife spaces through photography and film can tell us about our various relationships with them, and how photography intersects with pleasure, politics, and protest.“

Institute of Contemporary Arts (ICA) London – Talk + Screening

As part of Amelia’s book tour, I had the opportunity to join them and co-contributor Sweatmother in sharing our work at ICA London for a talk on May 13, 2026. Sweatmother and I also shared video histories from our archival work; I shared Frequency: An Interview with Starla Carr (2025).

Marking its publication (MACK, 2026), this one-off event brings together artists and archivists working across queer nightlife histories. Amelia Abraham will discuss the making of the book, joined by contributors sharing their work: Sweatmother presents their new short film lick spittle (2026) and reflects on dyke and transmasculine archives, and Nasir Anthony Montalvo introduces {B/qKC}, a community archive of Black queer Midwestern history, followed by a short screening of Frequency: An Interview with Starla Carr (2025).
